This song paints a picture of a child raised by a single mother who dies young . The boy makes his own way as the lyric describes, “the rest of everything I got I learned it on the run” Then as a man, finds it hard to put down roots and settle down. He is chained to the legacy of a father he never knew and struggles to break away from the behavior that preceded him. He is still not sure he can do it and warns off his lover “ I don’t know if I can shake these restless bones “ Maybe the sins of the father have been bestowed upon the son. Is this restlessness inherited? does he have “rambling in his blood” The idea for this song came from my fathers experience, as his father left him when he was seven years old. The song is set up with a traditional form, acoustic instrumentation and vocal harmony.
I am blessed to have Grammy Award winning fiddler
and bluegrass musician Michael Cleveland playing on this cut.
The Wolf
I put this together when the pandemic hit and resricted our movements. It's got an old school timeless vibe . Fingerstyle guitar, dobro , upright bass and vocal harmony.
It's been getting a response from radio so stay tuned.
Good To Be Back
A bare bones production. Most of these are one guitar, one vocal & one mic. Although I added a couple of fills and flat picked lead breaks on a couple. Check out the double time solo at the end of “Join In Too”. These songs are essentially the first takes of songs while they are in their infancy. When I complete a song I always record just guitar and vocal to see if the song can stand on it’s own. The old school folk and blues guitar players were often recorded with just one mic sitting in a chair. You could hear a foot tapping or squeaking chair now and then. The historic recordings by Alan Lomax in the sixties were mostly accomplished this way. I hope you’ll forgive some of my squeaks and foot taps. In a world of computer vocal tuning and sampled manufactured music production I believe this simple honest collection will stand out. The songs for this project range from tributes to legendary traditional musicians, unsung heroes , traveling songs, longing for home as well as coming together and more. All simply played and sung.
Stumpgrass!
Fans of bluegrass will like this collection. These songs were culled from various recordings made over the years. Some of these were included in my bandstand CD "Roadside Attraction". I am blessed to have many talented musicians and friends backing up these original songs. The late great Bill Keith on banjo is included on some of these cuts. Singer Songwriter
A collection of original songs. This is a mixed bag of songs for sure.
The internet has enabled me to collaborate remotely. Components of these were recorded in various
locations. Tracks were recorded in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville and Greece. I played most of the guitar parts and steered the production. It was a fun musical journey.
