Home Town Hero VFW

It’s a red white and blue day in the old home town
we’re all going down to the big parade
my little boy’s standing next to me ‘says daddy who’s that man over there
the one waving the little flag with the wheels on his chair
I said son
He’s a home town hero a VFW
he put his life on the line for you and me
he's every mothers son who has fallen to freedoms grave
don’t forget to thank him before you leave
and the band played on they played Johnny Come Marching Home
there's Mayor Thompson
and we all gather around the square
been a politician since Vietnam lost his brother out there
he's got a grandson serving in Iraq or is it Afghanistan
raises the flag half way and leads us all in prayer
chorus2
he said
Thank the home town hero VFW’s
Our daughters and sons who have fallen to freedom’s grave
lets have a moment of silence today
and the band played on they played Johnny Come Marching Home
As the crowd begins to leave I can see my little boy
saying thanks to the man in the wheel chair, it filled my heart with joy
the young man smiled as a tear on his wrinkled face rolled away
kissed my boy on his head and said “god bless the USA
chorus3
thank the home town hero's the VFW’s
